Band History

The Alibi as it is now known has been through some changes over the years.  Originally formed in the mid 90’s by Dylan and Sean with the late arrival of Auz, the band started to take shape.

As a three piece called The Soapbox Junkies, they first performed at The Boot in Weymouth and started the wheels in motion to what would lead to be The Alibi as you know and love them today.

Within a few months the trio were joined by Rich ‘Cheesy’ Chates, shortly followed by Ade ‘The Ears’.  The Alibi was founded!

Rapidly obtaining a good reputation around the local circuit, the band recorded a number of original songs and grew a strong following around the south.

Over the years the band have had changes to their sound and line-up, this included the introduction Dan on Bass Guitar.  The band took a blow in 2000 with the departure of Sean, leaving to find new roots in Australia.  With this loss, Kev was drafted in to fill Seans boots.

After 18 months, Auz decided that it was his turn to go travelling and at this point The Alibi was put on hold.  With Auz and Seans return in 2003, the band were back, bigger and better than ever… however, all they needed was a bass player!

This resulted in the appointment of Lee as the new bass player in The Alibi.  The band went from strength to strength with the enlistment of full time sound engineers Kieron, Darren and Jon and an ever expanding wall of sound.

It was then the turn of Lee to depart for pastures north i.e. Butlins in Skeggy.  Bruised and battered, the boys were once again on the hunt for a new bass player.  Following a number of auditions, Captain Tim was welcomed aboard the good ship ‘Alibi’, on which he stills sails today.

With the band stronger now than ever before, the boys have taken rock and roll to new levels and bigger events.  With good supporting venues and a following unmatched by any other band, The Alibi continue to break new grounds with their performances across the world.

Band Stuff

The band consists of a male singer, lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass guitar and drummer - learn a bit more about us here

They play a mix of well known covers from present day to popular rock classics, including the odd original every now and again.  Influences are Weller, Ocean Colour, Jam, Red Hot Chills and generally anything which sounds good.  Check out Songlist for more info...

Regular gigging around Dorset has created a popular following for the band who are looking to build on their growing fan base and always looking for extra gigs, whether they're local or further a field.  A recording contract very obviously wouldn't go amiss!

Some may say that they're a bunch of sad twisted individuals, others wouldn't hesitate to invite them in for a cup of Earl Grey... anyone fancy a brew?
